TIRANA, 28 March 2013 – The OSCE Presence in Albania, in partnership with the Italian Government, concluded the final phase of an in-depth training course in undercover techniques for nine police officers from the Internal Control Service of Albania’s Interior Ministry.

“The OSCE Presence in Albania firmly believes that supporting the further technical and professional development of our local partners in the Albanian Ministry of Interior is a vitally important task,” said the Head of the OSCE Presence in Albania, Ambassador Eugen Wollfarth, at a ceremony for the graduating police officers today, which was also attended by Interior Minister Flamur Noka and Italian Ambassador Massimo Gaiani.

“The specialized, in-depth training provided over the past few months will assist the Internal Control Service in investigating internal police crime, and therefore enhance the fight against police corruption. This will benefit not only the law enforcement agencies themselves, but also ultimately the Albanian people,” he added.

The course was part of the Presence’s broader assistance to the Albanian national security authorities and institutions, in line with its mandate.
